ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੁਖਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਲੰਮੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਕੁਝ ਦੇਰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਫ਼ਿਲਹਾਲ ਘਟਨਾ ਦੀ ਸੂਚਨਾ ਮਿਲਦਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪੁਲਸ ਮੌਕੇ ‘ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

The brazen attack, which occurred around 4 PM, has reignited concerns over rising lawlessness in the state.Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants arrived in a car, fired multiple rounds at Kalkatta who was seated at the local bus stand, and fled the scene before police could respond. He was declared dead on the spot due to severe gunshot wounds. Shahina, a small village in the Bhadaur assembly constituency, is now under heavy police deployment as investigators scour the area for clues, including CCTV footage and potential witnesses.Kalkatta, in his late 40s, was a prominent figure in local politics, having served as sarpanch of Shahina gram panchayat. He was the son of Bibi Malkit Kaur, a former sarpanch herself, and was known for his vocal activism within the Congress party. Active on social media, Kalkatta often sparred with rivals online; a viral video from last year showed him in a heated public debate with Bhadaur MLA Labh Singh Ugoke, highlighting local governance issues.The motive remains unclear, but preliminary investigations suggest it could be linked to political rivalries or old village feuds. No arrests have been made yet, but senior police officials have assured a swift probe, with special teams formed to track the fleeing gunmen.
The killing drew immediate condemnation from across the political spectrum, with opposition parties pointing fingers at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to curb escalating violence.Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema called the incident “a direct assault on democracy,” demanding an impartial investigation by a central agency. “The AAP regime is stifling dissenting voices through such cowardly acts. Punjab’s law and order has hit rock bottom,” Cheema said in a statement.The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) echoed similar sentiments, with state spokesperson Vineet Joshi labeling it “a shameful failure of the state machinery.” “Criminals are walking tall under this government.
