Chandigarh Becomes India’s First Slum-Free City
Chandigarh achieved the status of India’s first slum-free city on September 30, 2025, with the demolition of the last unauthorized colony, Shaphur Colony. 500 ਪੂਰਬੀ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਸੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਟਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ 70 ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਅਸਲ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਾਰਟਮੈਂਟ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ।
ਪਰ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ ਦੇ ਅਸਲ ਅਤੇ ਅਸਲੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ 28 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਏਕੜ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਖੋਹਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਐਡਜਸਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
