US court summons Diljit Dosanjh ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੀ ਫੈਡਰਲ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਗਾਇਕ ਤੇ ਅਦਾਕਾਰ ਦਿਲਜੀਤ ਦੋਸਾਂਝ, ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਟੈਲੀਵਿਜ਼ਨ ਮੇਜ਼ਬਾਨ ਜਿੰਮੀ ਫੈਲਨ, ਐੱਨ ਬੀ ਸੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਲ ਤੇ ਲਾਈਵ ਨੇਸ਼ਨ ਐਂਟਰਟੇਨਮੈਂਟ ਕੰਪਨੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ 1984 ਦੇ ਪੀੜਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਾਇਰ ਸਿਵਲ ਮੁਕੱਦਮੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਸੰਮਨ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਨਿਊ ਯਾਰਕ ਦੇ ਦੱਖਣੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਲਈ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਾਇਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ 1984 ਦੇ ਦੰਗਿਆਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਬਚ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੀ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਸਿੱਖਸ ਫਾਰ ਜਸਟਿਸ (ਐੱਸ ਐੱਫ ਜੇ) ਦੇ ਬਾਨੀ ਗੁਰਪਤਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਨੂ ਨੇ ਕੇਸ ਦੀ ਪੈਰਵੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਦਈ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਸੰਘੀ ਅਦਾਲਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਤਹਿਤ ਬਚਾਅ ਪੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਮਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਸਮੀ ਤਾਮੀਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ 21 ਦਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰ ਜਵਾਬ ਦੇਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਦੋਸਾਂਝ ਨੇ ਟੈਲੀਵਿਜ਼ਨ ਸ਼ੋਅ ‘ਕੌਨ ਬਨੇਗਾ ਕਰੋੜਪਤੀ’ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੌਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਅਦਾਕਾਰ Amitabh Bachchan ਦਾ ਜਨਤਕ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ 1984 ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਦੰਗਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਾਵਾਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਟ ਮਾਰੀ ਸੀ। ਮੁਕੱਦਮੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋਸਾਂਝ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਤੇ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਬੱਚਨ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਛੂਹਣ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਮੁਕੱਦਮੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਮਿਤਾਭ ਬੱਚਨ ਨੇ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਇੰਦਰਾ ਗਾਂਧੀ ਦੀ ਹੱਤਿਆ ਮਗਰੋਂ ‘ਖ਼ੂਨ ਬਦਲੇ ਖ਼ੂਨ’ ਦਾ ਨਾਅਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਨਵੰਬਰ 1984 ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਥਿਤ ਹਵਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤਕਰਤਾ ਨੇ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਦੋਸਾਂਝ 1984 ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਸਦਮੇ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅਦਾਕਾਰ ਨੇ 2022 ਵਿੱਚ ‘ਜੋਗੀ’ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਫ਼ਿਲਮ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਜਨਤਕ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ‘ਨਸਲਕੁਸ਼ੀ’ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਮੁਕੱਦਮੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੈਲਨ ਅਤੇ ਐੱਨ ਬੀ ਸੀ ਨੂੰ ‘ਦਿ ਟੂਨਾਈਟ ਸ਼ੋਅ ਸਟਾਰਿੰਗ ਜਿੰਮੀ ਫੈਲਨ’ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੋਸਾਂਝ ਨੂੰ ਕਥਿਤ ‘ਮੰਚ’ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਮੋਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਨਾਮਜ਼ਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿ ਲਾਈਵ ਨੇਸ਼ਨ ’ਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕਾਰਕੁਨ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਉਠਾਏ ਗਏ ਇਤਰਾਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਦੋਸਾਂਝ ਦੇ ਅਮਰੀਕੀ ਕੰਸਰਟ ਟੂਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਪਰਮੋਟ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
The lawsuit names *singer Diljit Dosanjh, television host Jimmy Fallon, NBC Universal Media LLC, and Live Nation Worldwide Inc* . as defendants in _Civil Action No. 26 CV 04213._
The plaintiff will attempt to serve Diljit Dosanjh through process servers during one of his upcoming Live Shows in the United States. *Once served, defendants will have 21 Days to respond to the allegations filed in U.S. Federal Court.*
According to the complaint, *Diljit Dosanjh “knowingly, willfully and in intentional disregard” publicly glorified and revered Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan* — accused in the lawsuit of raising _“Blood for Blood”_ slogans that allegedly fueled genocidal violence against Sikhs in November 1984.
The complaint specifically references Dosanjh’s public appearance with Bachchan on the television program _Kaun Banega Crorepati,_ during which *Dosanjh touched Bachchan’s feet in a gesture described in the filing as reverence and honor.* Plaintiffs allege the televised conduct caused _“extreme emotional distress”_ to survivors and victims of the 1984 Sikh Genocide.
The lawsuit further alleges that *Dosanjh acted with prior knowledge of the trauma associated with the 1984 violence* because of his role in the 2022 film _Jogi_ , where he publicly stated that _“What happened in 1984 was not riots, it was genocide.”_
*Jimmy Fallon and NBC* are named in the complaint for allegedly _“platforming,” “promoting,” and amplifying_ Dosanjh through The T _onight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,_ while *Live Nation* is accused of commercializing and promoting Dosanjh’s U.S. concert tour despite objections raised by Sikh Genocide survivors.
_Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), a U.S.-based human rights group that has campaigned internationally to document and expose the facts surrounding the 1984 Sikh Genocide,_ stated that it is supporting the victims pursuing the lawsuit.

This lawsuit sends a message that Sikh victims of 1984 will no longer remain silent while powerful media corporations normalize and sanitize individuals associated with genocidal violence.”*

Pannun further stated:
_“1984 Sikh Genocide survivors watched Diljit touch Bachchan’s feet not as entertainment, but as the rehabilitation of a figure they associate with the bloodshed of their families. No amount of music, television glamour, or celebrity culture can erase the trauma carried by Sikh Genocide victims for four decades.”_
The complaint asserts claims including *Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress, Negligent Infliction of Emotional Distress, negligence, and related allegations under state and federal law.* Plaintiffs allege the defendants’ actions _“substantially contributed to and exacerbated Plaintiff’s emotional distress, humiliation, psychological trauma, grief, and mental anguish.”_
The filing seeks *compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney’s fees, and declaratory relief.*
*The 1984 Sikh Genocide resulted in the deaths of over 30,000 Sikhs across India and continues to remain a source of profound trauma among survivors and victims worldwide.*
