ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ ਆਗੂ ਅਤੇ ਭੁਲੱਥ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਸੁਖਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਖਹਿਰਾ ਨੇ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ 328 ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ਮਿਲਣਾ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਅਤੇ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਘੋਰ ਅਣਗਹਿਲੀ, ਅਯੋਗਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਗੈਰ-ਗੰਭੀਰ ਰਵੱਈਏ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਨਕਾਬ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਹਿਰਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਦੇ ਥਾਣਾ ਸੀ ਡਿਵੀਜ਼ਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਜ ਐਫਆਈਆਰ ਨੰਬਰ 168 ਮਿਤੀ 07.12.2025, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ 328 ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਧਾਰਾਵਾਂ ਤਹਿਤ ਕੇਸ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਵਿੱਚ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ 16 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 2026 ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ਦੇਣੀ ਪਈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਿਤ ਸਮੇਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਚਲਾਨ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਫਲ ਰਹੀ। ਇਹ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਜਾਂਚ ਏਜੰਸੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਨਾਕਾਮੀ ਹੈ, ਸਗੋਂ ਸੂਬਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਤਰਜੀਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਸਵਾਲ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਰੀ ਵਰਗੇ ਸੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕੇਸ ਵੀ ਤਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ, ਜਦਕਿ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਟਾਂਡਾ ਦੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਅਰਸ਼ਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਚੋਣ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ “ਝਾੜੂ” ਦੀ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਹੇਠ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਦੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਖਹਿਰਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਕੱਢੀ ਗਈ “ਸ਼ੁਕਰਾਨਾ ਯਾਤਰਾ” ਹੁਣ ਇੱਕ ਖੋਖਲਾ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਡਰਾਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਟੰਟ ਸਾਬਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ 328 ਸਰੂਪਾਂ ਦੀ ਚੋਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲਾਨ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਕੇ ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਦੇ ਕਟਹਿਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਕਰਦੀ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਇਸ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਨਾਕਾਮੀ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀ ਮੰਗਣ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਕਰਨ ਕਿ ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਕਾਰਨ ਇੰਨੇ ਸੰਵੇਦਨਸ਼ੀਲ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਮਾਨਤ ਮਿਲੀ। ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਦੁਹਰਾਈ ਨਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇ।

Senior Congress leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has strongly condemned the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government, stating that the grant of default bail to an accused in the highly sensitive case involving the theft of 328 Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is a glaring example of the government’s incompetence, negligence, and lack of seriousness in dealing with sacrilege related cases.
Khaira said that in FIR No. 168 dated 07.12.2025 registered at Police Station C Division, Amritsar, involving the theft of 328 Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji along with other serious offences, the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Amritsar, in an order dated 16 April 2026, granted default bail to the accused because the Punjab Police failed to file the charge sheet within the stipulated statutory period. He said this reflects a shocking failure of the investigating agencies and raises serious questions about the priorities of the Bhagwant Mann government.
Khaira pointed out that while the AAP government repeatedly claims to be committed to securing justice in sacrilege cases, it could not even ensure the timely filing of a charge sheet in a case concerning the theft and alleged sacrilege of 328 Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. As a result, the accused secured default bail, undermining public confidence in the administration of justice.
He further stated that the government’s double standards have been fully exposed. On one hand, it has failed to effectively prosecute those accused in grave sacrilege cases involving Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, while on the other hand it recently arrested Arshdeep Singh of Tanda for allegedly committing “beadbi” of the AAP election symbol, the broom (Jharu). This clearly demonstrates that the Bhagwant Mann government appears more concerned about protecting its political symbol than ensuring justice in cases involving the highest religious sentiments of the Sikh community.
Khaira said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s recent “Shukrana Yatra,” undertaken in the name of the new anti-sacrilege law, now stands exposed as nothing more than a political stunt aimed at misleading the people of Punjab. Had the government been genuinely serious about sacrilege cases, it would have ensured a professional and time-bound investigation and timely filing of the charge sheet in this crucial case rather than allowing the accused to obtain default bail due to official negligence.
Khaira demanded that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann explain to the people of Punjab and the Sikh community how such a serious lapse occurred in a case involving the theft of 328 Saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He also demanded strict action against the officers responsible for the failure to file the charge sheet within the prescribed period so that such negligence is not repeated in future.
