**ਕਾਨਪੁਰ, 6 ਅਗਸਤ 2026:** ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਇਤਰਾਜ਼ਯੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਅਪਮਾਨਜਨਕ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਵਲੀ ਵਰਤਣ ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਅਜੈ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਸਿੰਘ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਲ ਕਾਨਪੁਰ ਕਚਹਿਰੀ ਦੇ ਅਹਾਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੁੱਟਮਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਉੱਤੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰੀ ਨਗਰ ਦੇ ਰੈਸਟੋਰੈਂਟ ਸੰਚਾਲਕ ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਲ ਫੋਨ ’ਤੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਅਮਰਿਆਦਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਇਤਰਾਜ਼ਯੋਗ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਰਤੀ। ਇਸ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੀ ਆਡੀਓ ਰਿਕਾਰਡਿੰਗ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ’ਤੇ ਵਾਇਰਲ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕਾਨਪੁਰ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰੀ ਰੋਸ ਫੈਲ ਗਿਆ।
ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ, ਦਸ਼ਮੇਸ਼ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਅਹੁਦੇਦਾਰ ਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ਦੇ ਆਧਾਰ ’ਤੇ ਫਜ਼ਲਗੰਜ ਥਾਣੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੇਸ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਣਬੁੱਝ ਕੇ ਅਪਮਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਧਾਰਾਵਾਂ ਤਹਿਤ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਮੰਗਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ 200 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨੁਮਾਇੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਫਜ਼ਲਗੰਜ ਥਾਣੇ ਦਾ ਘਿਰਾਓ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੜਕ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ “ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ” ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਬੂ ਹੇਠ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਕਈ ਥਾਣਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਤਾਇਨਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਵੀਡੀਓ ਜਾਰੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਗਲਤੀ ਲਈ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀ ਮੰਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਕੇਵਲ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਹੋਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਨਪੁਰ ਦੀ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪੇਸ਼ੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜਦੋਂ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਲਿਜਾਣ ਲਈ ਬਾਹਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਵਕੀਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਹਿਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਘੇਰ ਲਿਆ। ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਈਆਂ ਵੀਡੀਓਜ਼ ਅਤੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਤਿੰਨ-ਚਾਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਦੀ ਹਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਖਿੱਚਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਥੱਪੜ ਮਾਰੇ।
ਪੁਲਿਸ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਦਖ਼ਲ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਭੀੜ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਕੱਢਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਵਾਹਨ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਫਜ਼ਲਗੰਜ ਥਾਣਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਧਨੰਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਵਕੀਲਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੱਪੜਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਮੁਲਜ਼ਮ ਨਾਲ ਹੱਥੋਪਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਕੁੱਟਮਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ।
ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਵਰਕਰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਰਿਪੋਰਟਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਵਾਇਰਲ ਆਡੀਓ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਥਿਤ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਸੀ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅਸਲ ਅਹੁਦੇ ਜਾਂ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਸਬੰਧ ਦੀ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਸੁਤੰਤਰ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੀ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਥਿਤ ਟਿੱਪਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਚਹਿਰੀ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੋਈ ਕੁੱਟਮਾਰ ਦੋ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਹਨ। ਅਜੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਲੱਗੇ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਦਾ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦਕਿ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਹਿਰਾਸਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੁੱਟਮਾਰ ਦੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
Man accused of objectionable remarks against Guru Gobind Singh assaulted during Kanpur court appearance
**Kanpur, August 6, 2026:** Ajay Pratap Singh, also known as Ajay Singh, was assaulted by several people inside the Kanpur court premises while being taken away following his appearance before a court.
Ajay Singh had been arrested after a complaint accused him of using objectionable and disrespectful language about Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji during a telephone conversation with Harpreet Singh, a restaurant operator from Shastri Nagar. An audio recording of the alleged conversation subsequently circulated on social media, causing widespread anger among members of Kanpur’s Sikh community.
According to local media reports, a case was registered at Fazalganj police station following a complaint submitted by Raminder Singh, an office-bearer of the Dashmesh Parivar organisation. Police reportedly booked Ajay Singh under provisions concerning deliberate insults and the hurting of religious sentiments.
On Tuesday, more than 200 Sikh community members and representatives of various organisations surrounded Fazalganj police station and staged a protest demanding his immediate arrest and strict legal action. Demonstrators sat on the road reciting “Waheguru,” while police personnel from several stations were deployed to maintain order.
During the protest, Ajay Singh reportedly released a video apologising for his remarks and promising not to repeat such conduct. Protesters, however, maintained that an apology alone was insufficient and demanded action under the law.
Police subsequently arrested him and produced him before a Kanpur court on Wednesday. After the hearing, as officers were escorting him towards a vehicle to take him to jail, several people dressed as lawyers allegedly surrounded him. Video footage and media reports show some of them pulling at him and repeatedly slapping him despite the presence of police.
Police officers quickly intervened, removed Ajay Singh from the crowd and transported him to jail in a private vehicle. Fazalganj police station in-charge Dhananjay Singh confirmed that some people dressed as lawyers had engaged in an altercation and assaulted the accused while he was in custody.
Ajay Singh has been described as a local political worker. Reports also say that, in the circulated audio, he allegedly identified himself as a BJP district president. However, an official confirmation of his precise position or party role was not immediately available.
The allegations concerning the remarks and the assault at the court are separate matters. Ajay Singh remains an accused in the religious-sentiments case, while any attack upon a person in police custody may also require an independent investigation and legal action.
